Definition of a Tiny House

What is a Tiny House and what makes it so special? According to the definition, a Tiny House or Tiny Home is a small form of housing, measures a maximum of 40 square metres and can be transported in one piece.

Activities in the holiday region Disentis Sedrun

Of course, the destination Disentis Sedrun is the perfect starting point for numerous excursions - from hiking, biking, swimming, gold panning... nobody will get bored! Here are my 4 excursion tips:

1. Rhine spring Tomasee

The hike to Lake Toma has a very special meaning. Because here at the source of the Rhine begins the river Rhine, which flows into the North Sea after 1,230 km. The area around the Oberalp Pass is beautiful and it is equally unique to hike to the original source of the important Rhine.

The hike begins at the Oberalp Pass, which is the connection between Disentis in Canton Grisons and Andermatt in Canton Uri. The striking lighthouse stands invitingly at the start of the hiking trail, and next to it the information centre offers further information about the region. Did you know that the lighthouse stood for 70 years at the mouth of the river in Rotterdam and is now symbolically located at the source of the Rhine?

You can walk quickly and easily to Lake Toma via the direct route (T2, ↑↓ 468m; 8km; 4:00h) or choose the scenic route via Pazolastock. Here, too, the starting point is at the lighthouse and after a rocky ascent you are rewarded with a beautiful mountain panorama. The descent leads past the Badus Hut and after another 20 minutes you reach Lake Toma (T2, ↑↓ 850m; 9.7km; 4:35h).

2. NEAT adventure trail

The NEAT Adventure Trail can be started directly in front of the Tiny Homes at Camping Viva. On two tours you can learn more about the unique and impressive Gotthard Base Tunnel construction project. For over 17 years, the heart of the NRLA (New Rail Link through the Alps) has been built under the municipality of Tujetsch: a 57-kilometre-long tunnel tube, which is now one of the longest in the world!

The distributed informative stations encourage children and the curious to discover and try things out. If you collect and guess the right information at all the stations, you'll even win a small prize. PS: The route also takes you past Lag da Claus, where you can take a dip in the water or treat yourself to a refreshment in the restaurant.

The tour takes about 2-3 hours and covers a total of 6.3 km. The trail is open all year round (in winter on a reduced scale of 1-4 and A-D) Click here for the flyer, which you will also find at all stations.

3. Church trail

If you want to have a very leisurely but panoramic day, you can walk directly from the Tiny Home at Camping Viva towards the village centre of Rueras to the church. From there you can follow the signs in both directions. The entire tour "Chapels and Churches in Tujetsch" is easy but requires some stamina, as the hike stretches over 16.7km and takes 5 hours. Even if you only choose one part, the route combines nature and culture and shows you the beautiful buildings and their individual stories.

4. Lag da Claus

The swimming lake Lag da Claus is easily accessible from the Tiny Homes and highly recommended for a day trip or relaxation after a hike or bike tour. The small lake is idyllically situated and free of charge. There are parking spaces, sun beds and a restaurant with a nice terrace. You can reach the lake from Tiny House Camping Viva in about 45 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by bike.

Culinary delights

Culinary delights should not be neglected in Grisons. Naturcamping Viva has its own restaurant, which is open daily from 10AM-6PM. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can also enjoy a delicious homemade dinner by prior reservation. Regionality and seasonality are central to the campsite's sustainable concept - so there is also a vegan alternative. We were able to enjoy a typical autumn dish: Polenta with various autumn vegetables (red cabbage, pumpkin, chestnuts, mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts) and it was so tasty 😊

During the day (12AM-6PM) you can also enjoy a delicious soup, homemade croissants (ham or mushroom) or a sweet piece of cake in the Camping Viva restaurant at the Tiny Homes. When the weather is nice, the terrace is open and invites you to stay and enjoy.

You can enjoy your breakfast in your Tiny Home - fresh coffee from the mocha and fresh bread can be ordered the day before from the baker!

Of course, there are also some culinary tips that you shouldn't miss in the Sedrun Disentis region. Here, a lot of emphasis is placed on regionality, so you should definitely try the Bündner Nusstorte (Grisons nut cake) in addition to the classic Grisons dishes such as Capuns.

By the way, did you know that the world's smallest nut cake was created and produced in Sedrun? You can find the world's smallest nut tart in the delicatessen la Conditoria. In addition to the classic Bündner Nusstorte, Reto Schmid, the owner, also has other creations with figs, apricots or almonds.
